Duncan McLain, Auxiliary Bishop of Rhemuth, Rector of the Schola of Saint Camber at Saint Hilary's Basilica. Duncan served as Kelson's Confessor in the early years of his reign, and along with his cousin Alaric Morgan, he helped to activate the Haldane potential in the young King which allowed him the immediate use of his Deryni powers without the need for years of formal magical training. Until recent years, the Church of Gwynedd had banned Deryni from the priesthood out of fear of their powers. Only in recent years has this ban finally been lifted, allowing Duncan to use his powers openly. In Duncan's youth, prior to his ordination, he was briefly married to Maryse MacArdry, who bore him a son from that brief union before dying in childbirth. Duncan did not learn of his son's existence until just before Kelson's wedding to his first wife, Sidana of Meara.
Duke Dhugal MacArdry McLain, Duke of Cassan, best friend and foster brother to King Kelson. Dhugal grew up believing he was the youngest son of the Earl of Transha. Unbeknownst to him, his eldest "sister" Maryse was his true mother. Maryse and Duncan McLain married in secret while their families were feuding with each other, and were forced apart the morning after their wedding. Upon discovering her daughter's pregnancy, Dhugal's grandmother (who was also pregnant at the time) concealed her daughter's condition and pretended Maryse's baby was her own. Maryse died due to complications of childbirth. When word reached Duncan of his young bride's death (but not of the circumstances behind it), he returned to his vocation and entered holy orders a short time later. Later, Duncan briefly became the sole known heir to the Duchy of Cassan, but after his son Dhugal's existence became known, he was allowed to abdicate that title in favor of his new heir.
Prince Nigel Haldane, Duke of Carthmoor, younger brother of the late King Brion, uncle to King Kelson of Gwynedd. Nigel was a loyal supporter of his late brother, and now of his nephew, and has acted as Regent to the Kingdom on the occasions when the King had pressing duties which called him away from Court. Nigel is married to Duchess Meraude, who served Kelson as his chatelaine until his marriage to Araxie in 1128. Their eldest son, Conall, was executed in 1125 for acts of treason against his cousin King Kelson.
Thomas Cardiel, Archbishop of Rhemuth. Despite being an archbishop of the Church of Gwynedd and fully human, Thomas Cardiel has become a staunch ally of King Kelson in Kelson's efforts to stop the persecution of Deryni in Gwynedd and to usher in a new age of understanding and acceptance between humans and Deryni.
